Firm History

The office of Thorp Associates, P.C., Architects and Planners was originally established in Estes Park, Colorado in 1976 by Roger M. Thorp, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB. Over the years the firm has enjoyed a stimulating variety of projects, ranging from award-winning custom residential and commercial projects to shopping centers and resort accommodations, high-tech office design, conferencing facilities, libraries, and movie theatres throughout the United States and two provinces of Canada.

Building on the firm's main emphasis of "service" to its clients, Thorp Associates, P.C. has consistently worked to maintain close communication among the client, contractor, and architect, in order to ensure a successful project. The challenge of integrating a specific client's program requirements into successful, site-specific architectural design solutions, is approached by the staff as an opportunity. When possible, Thorp Associates, P.C. strives to interpret its clients' individual character through the architectural design process. This striving is an indication of the firm's flexibility in design to develop truly custom designs tailored for one specific client and its particular needs. It is this attention to design detail and a commitment to quality client communication and satisfaction that produces successful projects and extraordinary architecture. The firm is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Looking to the future and expanding on the diverse talent within the firm, in January of 2000, Joseph E. Calvin, AIA, became a partner and vice president of the firm. Joe's background in computer technology and systems design complements the firm's gentle architectural design philosophy and service orientation by assuring that state-of-the-art technology will continue to serve its clients well.

In February, 2004, Thorp Associates opened its new branch office in Milliken, Colorado, headed up by the firm's newest partner, Kelly C. Deitman, AIA, NCARB. This location has already proven beneficial in providing improved access and service to our many clients along the Front Range.

With a long successful history in the practice of architecture and the infusion of new talent, the firm is excited about continuing its excellence of service and design into the new millennium.
