Our original and innovative custom home designs are a successful result of a process which always begins with the client. We take special consideration in designing distinctive living environments to fit each client's unique and individual lifestyle. It is our objective to help define a space which serves not only as a reflection of our client's personality and identity, but also as an extension of their character and spirit.

The following are just a few examples of such designs

Kiihu Owanmuruqlep - Estes Park, Colorado
Kiihu Owanmuruqlep in the Hopi Indian language means "Home Next to the Rocky Ridge," which aptly describes the natural setting of this executive retreat near Rocky Mountain National Park. The plans for this home were generated from 30/60 degree base module. This "diamond" geometry is reflected in every detail from hand railings, to furniture, to carpet borders, to masonry. The interior features a three and one-half story open stair atrium and wall-wicking waterfall. The waterfall incorporates diamond-shaped diversion blocks and dry-laid and rough-cut native stone, placed in an ashlar pattern, reflecting the nearby ridge visible through the central skylight.

DeMario Residence - Fort Collins, Colorado
Overlooking the Front Range of Colorado east of Fort Collins, the DeMario Residence was designed to compliment rather than overwhelm its site. Generous use of moss rock, wood, ruf-sawn cedar, and tapered columns conveys a sense of warmth and timeless beauty. Local craftsmen were hired to design and construct custom metal work not only for the stair railing, but in features throughout the house. Amenities include massive stone columns in the vestibule, glazing that opens up the view to the west, spacious great room with cathedral ceiling, breakfast nook overlooking the private lake, a wine cellar, and a separate tack building.

Miller Residence - Estes Park, Colorado
Set on a knoll overlooking the Estes Valley and Long's Peak, the Tom and Judy Miller Residence was designed to minimize its impact on the site, while incorporating a nearby seasonal stream into its native landscape plan. Designed for holiday and family entertaining, the house captures major views of far off mountain peaks, and yet incorporates a sensitive, personally scaled entrance. A massive corbelled fireplace, open to both the dining and living rooms, helps tie the public entertainment areas together, while dividing the house into more personal and intimate areas. The exterior of the home, designed to minimize maintenance, includes cement tile roofing shingles, Colorado native moss rock veneer, and limited amounts of rough-sawn cedar siding.

Mace Residence - Telluride, Colorado
Thorp Associates was commissioned to design a custom residence located in the City of Mountain Village, adjacent to the slopes of the Telluride Ski Resort. Faced with strict design covenants and a stringent design review process Thorp Associates designed a home which both functions well for the client as well as reflects the character of the area. The home includes massive timber trusses in the Porte-Cochere which is carried through into the vaulted ceiling of the Great Room. Other amenities include a gas-fired fire pit on the patio overlooking the mountain and valley vistas, a bar-b-que grill built into the patio side of the main stone chimney, a wine cellar with custom wrought iron gate, and a whirlpool spa sunken into the patio adjacent to master bedroom.

Gordon Residence - Estes Park, Colorado
Ron & Vivian Gordon have worked with Thorp Associates for a number of years, refining and expanding a residence (originally designed by Roger Thorp in the 1970s) in order to better fit their personal needs.  So far there have been three phases to the project, including a sun room off their legendary kitchen, an entertainment patio with dining area, spa, and fire pit, and an elegant period-style bar and recreation room with pool table, dart board, and flat-screen TV.  Nestled beautifully in the Estes Valley, Thorp Associates has worked to be sure each addition is “seamless” with the architectural character of the original design.

Fink Residence - Estes Park, Colorado
Designed to express "mountain elegance", this custom home rests comfortably on its sloping site in Windcliff Estates. To further the feel of a turn-of-the century sophisticated mountain lodge, the architect used stone piers, horizontal siding, native moss rock, exposed rafter tails, sandstone, and lots of glass to capture its mountain setting. Features of the Great Room include a stone fireplace, access to Dining and Master Bedroom decks, and the central view of Hallett's Peak and the Continental Divide. Completed in the spring of 2003, the owners were able to enjoy the entire Rocky Mountain summer.

Aspen Spring - Estes Park, Colorado
Originally conceived as a retirement "legacy" home, the Duryea Residence, known as "Aspen Spring" was recently completed in Windcliff Estates, west of Estes Park, Colorado. Designed to be handed down to future family members, the home primarily incorporates low maintenance materials, such as Colorado native stone, cement tile roof, and minimum amounts of cedar siding. A unique wood and steel rod truss system was utilized in the structure's roof framing to emphasize the open, bright interior in this heavily wooded site.

Burt Residence, Colorado
Classic Rocky Mountain Rustic design character makes the Burt Residence right at home in Estes Park.  This 2,800 s.f., three bedroom, three bath mountain retreat incorporates native moss rock stone veneer, cedar siding and log truss and trimwork throughout.  The Living Room and main level of the house is raised above the grade to enhance views of the surrounding mountains, with a huge welcoming deck wrapped around three sides. The design recalls the Arts and Crafts cottages of early Estes Park sprinkled around the Estes Valley.

Marek Residence - Estes Park, Colorado
On a hillside overlooking RMNP and Longs Peak is the Marek Residence. Featuring a log truss roof system, the structure rests on massive stone piers, utilizes wood siding, to create a design reminiscent of early mountain lodge homes. Reclaimed wood flooring from an 1800's whiskey warehouse adds character to the beautiful rustic western furnishings. The marble kitchen and custom woodworking further add elegance. The great room with its unique masonry fireplace, constructed of huge individual native rock, is open to both the patio on the north and the full glazing on the south, to give the owners unparalleled views and the sensation of living in the out-of-doors. Extensive landscaping by the owner has removed the new construction feel, allowing this house to appear already at home in its environment.
