Whether it’s two wheel or four, Thorp Associates continues to provide award-winning designs for these special use facilities.  Efficient and functional layouts are developed with Client and/or Corporate representatives to assure a successful project.  Aesthetic concerns for exterior lighting and architectural character are also important design issues perfected by the Thorp Associates design team.

Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson - Loveland, Colorado
Thorp Associates would like to congratulate Todd & Shelly Erdmann and everyone at Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson on the successful completion of their new 56,000 s.f. regional retail and service center. Located at the intersection of I-25 and Crossroads Boulevard between Loveland and Fort Collins, Colorado, the character of the superstore is designed to be reminiscent of a rustic mountain lodge.  Extensive use of stone and log detailing was thoughtfully developed to conceal the underlying steel building superstructure.  In addition to a full line of retail products, customers will find a complete parts and service department second to none.  The facility is the first phase of a retail/entertainment core development at the busy intersection.  The project has already won an ACE Award from the AGC of Colorado and a Gold Hard Hat Award from McGraw Hill/Colorado Construction Magazine.

Tynan's Saab - Fort Collins, Colorado
To assist Tynan Motors with their expanding presence in Northern Colorado, Thorp Associates designed an addition and remodeling to an existing automobile rental agency at 221 E. Troutman Parkway in Fort Collins. TA’s experience in auto dealership design was a valuable asset in quickly understanding the needs and requirements involved in updating and modifying the structure for an effective and purposeful use in today’s marketplace. The design included the addition of a two-story glazed showroom to complement the scale of the existing structure, while increasing visibility to the street. Clean modern lines were incorporated to give a fresh and professional look, making Tynan Saab a valued resource in the community.

Ehrlich Volkswagen - Greeley, Colorado
The Ehrlich Volkswagen Automobile Dealership, winner of an "Excellence in Community Design" award, is a fine example of forward planning principles put into place some twenty years ago, paying dividends to this date as infill development occurs. The property was originally planned as a part of the dealership and included extensive landscaping throughout the site in anticipation of future development. Not only has the existing landscaping grown up to buffer the street from the shiny chrome and paint of the dealership, but it still allows specific views into the site and along the right-of-way to adequately identify the product and provide safe, easy access. The dealership follows a themed design of the Volkswagen Corporation, but includes a raised parking level for additional inventory that has been sufficiently set back from the main showroom to minimize its visibility and impact on the street. Set within a line of existing automobile dealerships, the project illustrates that with thoughtful consideration and planning, even an “unfinished” site can be designed to be seamlessly integrated into a final development plan that provides a safe and efficient market service to the public, while accommodating the aesthetic requirements of good planning and design.

Ehrlich Toyota - Greeley, Colorado
Although the character of the Ehrlich Toyota Automobile Dealership was governed largely by requirements of Toyota USA, the designers at Thorp Associates were careful to clad the steel building superstructure with materials that were consistent with other commercial buildings nearby. The natural grading of the site was enhanced with the development of two retention ponds, which were designed specifically to be wide and shallow enough to sufficiently maintain runoff at a historic rate, while providing a safe and aesthetically pleasing retained body of water in the landscaped areas. Retaining walls and heavily landscaped berms further serve to enhance the green urban character of the site.

Tynan's Kia - Loveland, Colorado
Tynan Kia at Centre Point is a 27,580 sf automobile dealership designed for east of Loveland, Colorado on the Interstate 25 corridor.  The building's design features a large showroom and prominently elevated towers at the building's corners for special emphasis displays.  Both the showroom and towers are presented to the exterior with a unique glazing system in which all vertical supports are concealed behind butt-jointed glass leaving only the horizontal bracing mullions visible to the public.  This emphasis on the horizontal elements of the building follows through into aluminum panels elsewhere on the building and compliments the sleekness and aerodynamics of the automobiles being featured.  The facility is also designed to include an expansive service department, parts storage, retail and offices on two levels matching the overall height of the showroom.
